No fewer than 200 residents drawn from the four political wards in Imota Local Council Development Area have been enrolled in the Lagos State Government’s ILERA EKO Health Insurance Scheme through the free healthcare initiative of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, as part of activities marking the first anniversary of his administration.
The enrolment exercise, held at the council secretariat in Imota on Saturday, was conducted during the Free Healthcare Programme organised in partnership with the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA). The exercise attracted a large turnout of beneficiaries, including the elderly, women, youths, artisans, and other vulnerable members of the community.
The initiative was designed to expand access to affordable, quality healthcare while reducing the financial burden of medical treatment on residents.
Speaking during the programme, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of the people through inclusive and people-centred policies. He noted that access to quality healthcare remains a fundamental pillar of sustainable development and pledged that no resident would be left behind in his vision for a healthier Imota.
The council chairman explained that beneficiaries would enjoy access to comprehensive healthcare services at accredited health facilities under the ILERA EKO Health Insurance Scheme.
He urged the enrollees to take full advantage of the opportunity by seeking prompt medical attention whenever the need arises.
Officials of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), led by Mr. Oladejo (HICT), who represented the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board, supervised the enrolment exercise, commended the Chairman Benson Ayodele’s administration for partnering with the state government to deepen health insurance coverage at the grassroots, describing the initiative as a significant step towards achieving universal health coverage across Lagos State.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele for what they described as a life-changing intervention. They noted that the free healthcare services and ILERA EKO enrolment would ease the financial burden associated with accessing quality medical care and prayed for the continued success of the administration.
The healthcare initiative forms part of a series of people-oriented programmes lined up to commemorate the first anniversary of the Benson Sunday Ayodele administration. Other activities include youth empowerment programmes, sporting competitions, and community development projects aimed at improving the quality of life for residents across Imota LCDA.
Residents and stakeholders lauded the initiative as yet another demonstration of the administration’s commitment to its “Hi-SEE” transformation agenda. They described the free health insurance enrolment as a timely intervention that will strengthen healthcare delivery, promote preventive healthcare, and enhance the overall well-being of the people of Imota Local Council Development Area.
